Thanks for living on campus!

Moving Out of Your Husker Home

Student moving out of the residence halls.

As the semester winds down, it's time to gear up for your move-out from your Husker Homes. Follow these instructions for a smooth transition.

All Residence Halls close at 1PM on Saturday, May 17, 2025. This is the deadline to be completely moved out of your on-campus residence hall.

How to Check Out

Two easy steps:

  • Pack and clean your room. You are expected to clear your space of all personal belongings and return the room to its original condition ahead of your check-out.

  • Officially check out of your room with a Residence Life staff member. Use the schedule below to identify where to report based on when you're ready to checkout. If you leave without checking out with a staff member, you will be charged for an improper checkout.

Learn More

A few ways to learn more about move-out:

  • Review the move-out checklist posted on your door (also found on this webpage)
  • Attend a Closing floor meeting.
  • Look for signage in the building and on your floor regarding steps and reminders for move-out.
  • Watch your email for further details as May gets closer.

Meal Plan Details

  • Once you've checked out of your room, your meal plan will no longer work.
  • All Meal Plans will expire on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 1PM.

Don't Forget!

Mail & Packages

Be sure to change your address in MyRed to ensure our staff can forward any first-class letter mail to you. Packages will not be automatically forwarded and by default returned to sender. Students are responsible for updating their delivery address with individual vendors and shipping companies.

OZZI Containers

Return any green reusable OZZI containers before leaving campus. Find bins to return containers, silverware, or other dining items in hall lobbies.

Bicycles

Make sure to take your bike home. After 30 days, abandoned bikes are taken to inventory for auction. If you are staying here for the summer, there are designated "safe" racks to lock up your bike.

  • Corrugated cardboard isn't allowed in city landfills. Reduce cardboard use by packing your items in reusable tubs. No cardboard is allowed in the roll-off containers!
  • To reduce waste, pack items in reusable tubs, bags, suitcases, laundry baskets, etc. Instead of bubble wrap or packing peanuts, wrap delicate items in linens or clothes. This method can help you pack your items more efficiently while also reducing the amount of plastic you use unnecessarily.
